Over the last few months, I've had the pleasure of collaborating with some fantastic writers on an exciting new project: Bending The Arc Magazine.
Bending The Arc takes its title and learnings from the Thrutopia Masterclass, hosted by a leading thinker in this space, Manda Scott. The phrase 'bending the arc of the possible' came from one of the speakers on the course, B. Lorraine Smith.
Working closely with poets Alice Willitts and Ilse Pedler, we navigated through the masterclass material over six months. We asked ourselves what thrutopoetics and thrutopoems might look like in the context of current and existing ecopoetry and nature poetry.
Alongside insights from prose writers Katherine Stansfield and Laura Baggarley, we created Bending The Arc Magazine to showcase existing work in the thrutopian space and encourage more people to join in.
Launching on Earth Day 2025, we hope more people will be inspired to explore the new framework of thrutopia in their thinking about the future and maybe in their own creative projects.
Thrutopoetry is exciting because its rules are yet to be written or broken. Watch this space... interesting new work is emerging not only from fellow editors of the magazine but also from those responding to calls for new material. I can't wait to see what comes back from our call for submissions and what emerges outside of our magazine in the wider world of poetry.
